Top 3 Movie Series Title Sequences of 2013

There are many title sequences that even though very old are still known by people all around the world. Who doesn’t know the opening sequence of The Simpsons or Bonanza, along with their music themes? Star Trek, X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, and the subtitles of Star Wars scrolling to – arguably the most well known theme song of all time – the Imperial March (also known as the Darth Vader March) – are some other great examples of title sequences that will forever be remembered as part of the history of film. There are some other, less known opening sequences, such as Shōgun, filmed entirely in Japan in 1980, or another hidden gem of the genre – Twean Peaks.

All of the examples above are older productions. This does not mean that film houses do not make any great opening title sequences anymore. Below are our top three pick for the best title sequences of 2013.

Position #3: Dexter

Showtime’s Dexter is an American drama series that follows the life of a serial killer with a moral code developed by his father. The title sequence to Dexter shows the title character’s morning routine heavily implying the show’s main theme – blood and murder.

Position #2: True Blood

In the second place comes True Blood, a dark drama series with huge humorous and political overtones produced by HBO in association with Ball’s production company, and Your Face Goes Here Entertainment. The show follows extraordinary exploits of a non-sparkling breed of vampires, as well as other supernatural creatures and their interactions with normal human beings. True Blood’s title sequence has been nominated for the Emmy award. it portrays American Deep South – the main setting of the show. The background song is “Bad Things” by Jace Everett and the main theme is sinful temptation intertwined with redemption.

The Best Title Sequence of 2013 – Position #1: Game of Thrones

And finally, in the first place – which should be no surprise – the opening sequence to The Game of Thrones, a HBO original series based on The Song of Ice and Fire, a fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin. Unlike the previous two sequences, the sequence to The Game of Thrones gets updated every season but so far has revolved around a 3D portrayal of the imaginary continent of Westeros.

Special Mention: Game of Thrones Inspired Opening Sequence to The Simpsons!

Simpsonized Characters of the Game of Thrones – Double Awesome!

Although technically not from 2013 – it was aired on February 17, 2013 – we simply could not publish this article without including the doubly awesome opening sequence of 521st episode of The Simpsons – Hardly Kirk-ing that combines both The Simpsons AND the Game Of Thrones – how amazing is that?!!

There are of course many more title sequences worth mentioning and we do certainly plan to revisit the subject but for now, if you’d like to learn more about opening sequences, how they’re made, and who produces such videos, please feel free to visit our main website, because in addition to being a full-service video production agency, we are also a title sequence production company.
